ABOUT Kristin Lindsay

Favorite WOD:  Any workout with power cleans or rowing.

Least Favorite WOD: WODs with running!

Tell us about your sports & fitness background: My background in sports and fitness includes competitive figure skating from a young age through high school, as well as playing lacrosse, field hockey, and volleyball. In college, I played various club sports and later continued my fitness journey at HIIT style gyms before joining CFKSQ.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD... what was it, and how did it feel?

Joining CFKSQ was my first real introduction to CrossFit. I was comfortable with the cardio elements but brand new to lifting and gymnastics-style movements. From the start, I felt incredibly welcomed by the community, even though I knew I had a lot to learn. I don’t remember the exact workout from my first day, but I do remember it being tough! It definitely challenged me, but in the best way.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)?

Since starting CrossFit, I’ve noticed a big improvement in my endurance. I can now push through longer workouts. I've also gotten stronger, increasing the weights I can lift, and along the way, I've picked up some new gymnastics skills that I never thought I would be able to do!

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?

One change has been the confidence I’ve gained in my overall fitness. I never imagined myself doing any kind of competition or judged workout, but CrossFit has really pushed me to step outside my comfort zone. It's helped me grow not just physically, but mentally as well.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFKSQ moments:

Some of my favorite CFKSQ moments have been participating in Suns Out, Guns Out and Friday Night Lights. This past year was my first time doing both events, and they were such a blast! They definitely pushed me outside of my comfort zone, but I walked away feeling proud of myself for showing up and giving it my all.

Any advice for people just getting started?

My biggest advice is don’t give up. Keep showing up and putting in the time to build your skills. I constantly remind myself that I am on my own CrossFit journey, and it is important to focus on my own growth and progress, not compared to anyone else’s.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

I am a middle school girls field hockey and lacrosse coach. In the winter, I also coach learn-to-skate and preliminary figure skating. It is rewarding to teach the sports I loved growing up. I am a big Ravens fan, love spending time at the beach, and enjoy any adventure with my miniature dachshund, Tucker!
